DESCRIPTION:Libbey House Announces International Year of Glass Lecture Series: Toledo—The Glass City\, 1888 to 2022\nThe Libbey House Foundation is sponsoring a lecture series throughout 2022 that will highlight the rich history that has made Toledo “The Glass City.”  The lectures are part of a world-wide celebration of the International Year of Glass\, as designated by the United Nations. \nEach of the planned lectures will focus on a different aspect of glass in Toledo.  The lectures will be held at the former home of Edward Drummond Libbey\, the city’s only National Historic Landmark\, as well as at other venues. \nSpeakers will include historians\, glass industry executives\, researchers\, curators\, and collectors.  The series will focus on Toledo’s unique role in fostering the development of both industrial glass and art glass.  The series is grouped into three themes:  The Roots of Toledo Glass\, Toledo Glass Innovation\, and Toledo Glass and American Aesthetics. \nToledo Glass and American Aesthetics\n\nThe Glass Pavilion and the Toledo Museum of Art\nLecture by Adam Levine\, Director\, Toledo Museum of Art\n\nThe cost is of each lecture is $10\, which includes a wine and cheese reception.  Proceeds will go to the Libbey House Foundation\, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the Edward Drummond and Florence Scott Libbey house in Toledo’s Historic Old West End. Scott\, grandfather of Libbey’s wife\, Florence Scott Libbey\, on Thursday\, April 27\, at 7 p.m.  The talk will examine Scott’s vision of Toledo as the “Future Great City of the World\,” and how that vision led him to establish the Toledo University of Arts and Trades\, which became UT.  While Scott’s university failed in its early years\, the tenacity of his three sons (including Florence’s father Maurice Scott) to see their father’s vision survive eventually produced an institution of higher learning that celebrated its 150th anniversary last year. \nCopies of Floyd’s book will be available for sale at a book signing and reception prior to the lecture beginning at 6:30 p.m. \nSpace is limited to the first 50 people.
